Hi
ReplyDeletei'm looking for a set of 29 er wheel set with rolloff carbon belt that would fit on my ibis tranny size xl
the weight is important for me and the entent use will be city or gravel
thank you very much

We learned recently that the Speedhub does not fit on the Tranny due to the shape of the dropout. It would require quite a lot of grinding away carbon to make room for the axle plate, which did not look like a good idea.
ReplyDeleteYou built a set of wheels for me a while back. Derby CX rims, Rohloff, SP dynamo. All good, no problems so far BUT some of the spokes on the rear wheel have quite a noticeable "kink" as they exit the nipple. Derby says their spoke hole drillings are angled but, for the Rohloff, it doesn't appear to be enough of an angle. Again, no problems yet (been riding them for only a year+, mainly gravel) but it just looks like spoke failure waiting to happen. Would a Derby 29er rim, or other rim, offer a better build?
ReplyDeleteI would wait to see if you have problems. If you have a spoke failure, it will be one at a time and not all at once. We haven't seen any spoke failures with the Derby CX rims yet. A shallower rim will reduce the bend a small amount, but not significantly.
